Golf Etiquette

Preparation

  1. Be punctual.
  2. Dress Code:
    Gentlemen - Golf attire should be tailored and in good taste. Shorts with zipper and pockets may be worn with knee socks. Golf shirts must be the type with a collar or a turtle neck and must be tucked in all times. Head gear with non-golf designations/logo, tee shirts, tank tops, jeans, jogging/rugger pants with stripes and socks with stripes are NOT permitted.
    Ladies - Golf dresses, golf skirts, shorts or Bermuda length shorts may be worn with a blouse or knitted shirt with collar and must be tucked in at all times. Golf pants are permitted. Head gear with non-golf designations/ logo, tee shirts, tank tops, jeans, jogging/rugger pants with stripes and socks with stripes are NOT permitted.
  3. Observe and follow the Rules of Golf and local rules of the golf course.
  4. Be ready to play your turn at all times. Swing leisurely and walk briskly. AVOID SLOW PLAY AND BE CONSIDERATE TO OTHER PLAYERS AT ALL TIMES.
  5. Keep voices down in exchange of conversation. Avoid shouting and yelling on the course.
  6. Be aware of the safety of other golfers when doing warm up practice swings.

On the Tee

  1. Do not talk or make any noise when someone is teeing off.
  2. Do not stand in a position that will disturb the player teeing off.
  3. Inform the other players your ball used – mark & number for identification purpose.
  4. Make sure the group in front is out of range before play.
  5. Carts should not be placed close to or on the tee area.
  6. Replace divots.

On the Fairways

  1. Get ready when you are next to play.
  2. Replace divots and do it properly.
  3. Do not walk ahead of other players for safety.
  4. Ball, once in play, cannot be moved, cleaned or the lie improved.
  5. If there is a possibility that the ball hit is out of bounds (OB) or cannot be found, play a provisional ball.
  6. Do not spend more than 3 minutes searching for lost ball.
  7. Keep pace, avoid clear hole in front.

In the Bunker

  1. Enter and exit the bunker from the closest point to the ball.
  2. Do not practice in bunker by touching sand.
  3. Rake sand and erase footprints and furrows in bunkers.

On the Putting Green

  1. Repair ball marks.
  2. Carts should not be placed close to or on the green.
  3. Mark ball when others are first to putt.
  4. Hold or remove flag stick when others are first to putt.
  5. Put down flag stick carefully and away from others’ line of putt.
  6. Do not step on others’ putting lines and walk carefully so as not to damage the green.
  7. Stand in a position so as not to disturb others in putting.
  8. Do not ask advice regarding speed of green, line of putt etc.
  9. Replace flag stick as soon as the last player putts out and be careful not to damage the hole.
  10. Exit the green area promptly and do scoring off the green area.
  11. After putting, approach to the next tee as soon as possible and clear the green area for the following group.
  12. Report correct number of strokes played to the scorer. Declare lower score deliberately is cheating and a matter of personal integrity.
